A desert garden in the Aegean

The owner of this piece of land on the Greek island of Mykonos wanted the house to complete the garden and not the other way round.

We designed everything from the actual home and the pool to the garden. We wanted to design a lush desert garden that hugged the building from all sides. We used hardwood timber for the paths and terrazzo tiles for the patios outside the house and the pergola / outdoor kitchen rooms.

A freestanding wall separates the pool area from the garden.

The planting scheme incorporates native and non native species that are equipped  to withstand the rising temperatures  and increasing drought periods, predicted for the next decades. The boulders add another interesting dimension and are native characteristic of the Island.

This garden was heavily influenced and inspired by American landscape architect, Steve Martino.
