About Us

"Garden design is a unique form of art because the creation and development of a garden is so dynamic. Plants grow and the composition is ever evolving. Materials age, adding an extra, desirable characteristic. It is a living, breathing artwork!

The fusion of art, design and horticulture in my work comes from my journey through life and my influences in these disciplines. This is reflected in my clients' gardens.

I can't think of a more noble thing to do with my time than improving the lifestyle of my clients and giving them a beautiful, soulful, outdoor place to enjoy."

Epoch Garden design was founded by artist and garden designer Stathis Lazarides. A Greek national residing in the UK since 1996, Stathis hails from a line of 3 generations of plantsmen and women, steeped in horticulture.

He grew up in a rural setting in North Greece watching his father develop his passion for organic vegetable growing and this has built the foundation for his own close relationship with the soil, everything that grows from it and the natural world.

Although Stathis has always been an avid gardener, his professional life path took him initially to a career in art and music in particular. He studied music production at the School for Audio Engineering (SAE) in Holloway, London and has enjoyed more than 2 decades of success in the music industry as a producer, DJ and promoter. He has played alongside the biggest names in the international Electronic Music scene such as Carl Cox, Danny Tenaglia and John Digweed to name but a few. He has travelled all around the world playing his music (including the legendary Ministry of Sound and Fabric nightclubs in London) and he has also played a vital role in the development of Cavo Paradiso club on the Island of Mykonos, Greece, which is now one of the most famous clubbing destinations on the planet.

His love for art, design and plants came together in 2010 when he started experimenting in his own 500sqm garden after visiting the Chelsea Flower Show. As well as trying new ideas when designing and building his garden, Stathis fused art installations and plants such as air plants and succulents. He has also created various private commissions for a number of clients.

A selection of images from Stathis's journey in garden design experimentation and various artworks commissioned by private clients.

In 2018 he decided to take the next step and study garden design at the Oxford College Of Garden Design where he graduated with a distinction. He has been working constantly on new projects even before finishing his studies and he is currently involved in several projects in the UK and beyond.

Stathis is collaborating closely with an extensive network of amazing craftsmen and women, artists and contractors and together they make even the most demanding projects a reality.
