A chic courtyard in Oxford
This tiny courtyard garden was a project I completed as a student for the Oxford College Of Garden Design.
The client brief stated the clients wanted a contemporary garden that acted as an extension to their recently renovated house.
It needed to be stylish with references to a tranquil Japanese garden. They wanted the designer to specify not only the garden but also the art and furniture to be used.
The pergola at the end of the garden encourages the clients to come out and use the whole garden and it is a modern interpretation of a Japanese Tea House.
The art element was achieved with 4 granite sculptures in the style of Ben Nicholson and the planting is a low maintenance, drought tolerant scheme and includes Mahonias, Rhododendrons, acers, dwarf pines and fargesias.
